Virtual reality hasn’t yet caught on in the mainstream, but there are a lot of devices out there that support the feature and are hoping to help VR make it big. Today VR is gaining support from the biggest video site in the world.
YouTube has announced that its service now supports VR video. To watch a VR clip, you simply need to navigate to a video that supports VR, tap the Google Cardboard icon if VR playback doesn’t start immediately, and then pop your phone into a VR headset like Google’s Cardboard.
YouTube says that you can also watch any video on its service in a VR viewer to get a sort of movie theater experience. You simply need to tap the Cardboard option from a video’s watch page menu and you’ll be good to go.
While VR still has a ways to go before it reaches mainstream adoption, this move by YouTube is still big for VR. Now, when a person gets a VR viewer, they’ll have a huge library of content that they can use with the VR viewer, and it’ll be available from a source that they’re most likely aware of and comfortable using.
