New smartphone models are being introduced to the public quite often. Adding to the long list of smartphone manufacturer names, a newcomer has joined in on the lineup and is taking a huge risk. Miami-based phone manufacturer, Ubik, has just launched their Ubik Uno device on Kickstarter. For as little as $280, individuals can help fund the Ubik Uno smartphone that promises to be a strong competition against big-name flagship models.
The Ubik Uno sports a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display surrounded by a metal frame and a thin bezel. Powering the device from within is a 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek processor with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in memory with a microSD card that can be expanded by up to 64GB. The phone will be equipped with a 20MP Sony camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture and can capture 4K footage. A secondary camera is available in front with an 8MP sensor. It also has a 3100mAh battery that supports quick charging. The Ubik Uno promises to run on stock Android 5.1 Lollipop upon unboxing. It has 4G LTE support for AT&T and T-Mobile networks.
Considering the campaign has just launched on Kickstarter, Ubik would like to raise $200,000 to build the device. Early pledgers can snag the smartphone for only $280 while the next 1000 pledgers can get it for $299. After that, the price will be $320 on Kickstarter. The Ubik Uno is set for a public release in the last quarter of the year, where it will be sold for $345 off-contract.
