Apple now appears set to begin accepting non-iPhone trade-ins in its stores, just like a recent rumor claimed that it would.

Apple has updated its retail store pages to say that its Reuse and Recycling Program will now give you credit when you recycle an iPhone, iPad, “or select smartphone from another manufacturer.” That means that you can trade in select Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone devices to get a credit toward an iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus. The service is live in the U.S., France, Italy, and the U.K.

Apple has been taking iPhones for trade-in for a while now, and it’s kind of surprising that it took the Cupertino firm this long to begin taking non-iOS phones too. Now that it does, Apple can better argue for non-iPhone owners to switch to its platform by offering to take their old phone, give them a credit for it, then sell them a new phone in a single process.
