UPDATE: Xiaomi has posted an image of the Mi 4 running Windows, which you can find below. The company also says that it'll release the Windows ROM pack in its forum "soon." (h/t Neowin).
After teasing some of Windows 10’s new mobile features back in January, Microsoft has finally given us a timeframe in which we can expect to actually get the full-on update.
Windows 10 will be released this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages. No specific mobile details were given, but Microsoft did tease that it’s partnering with Xiaomi on a program that’ll test Windows 10 for phones on the Mi 4. What’s interesting about that is that the Mi 4 is an Android smartphone. Microsoft says that “a select group of power users” will get to test Windows 10 on the Mi 4.
Windows 10 will bring with it a number of new features for smartphones, such as an expanded quick settings section in the Ation Center, a full wallpaper on your Start screen, and actionable notifications. It’s exciting to finally have an idea of when Windows 10 will actually launch to the public, but perhaps the most interesting tidbit of news revealed today is that Microsoft will test Windows 10 on an Android phone. Details on how the project will work are light right now, but this is definitely an effort that I’ll be keeping an eye on.
