The pre-CES 2015 mobile announcements roll on today with two new smartphones from Acer.
First up is the Acer Liquid Jade S that’s powered by a 64-bit octa-core Mediatek MT6752M processor. The Liquid Jade S also has a 5-inch display, 13-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and 4G LTE connectivity, all of which is packed into a body that’s 7.78mm thick. Acer points out that some versions of the Liquid Jade S will include a “hybrid microSD/dual nanoSIM” feature that’ll let you use a microSD card or second SIM card, depending on your needs.
Acer has also thrown a few of its own special software goodies into the Liquid Jade S. That includes voice commands for photo capture, Dual Shot for making a photo collage using the front and rear cameras, and Auto Scene Detect, which will determine the best camera settings for a photograph. Finally, AcerEXTEND lets you control your phone wirelessly using a Windows PC.
The Liquid Jade S will launch in January in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at a starting price of €299 (~$359 USD). It’ll be sold in black, white, pink, and red colors and will launch with Android 4.4, though Acer says an update to Android 5.0 will come “later in 2015.”
The second new phone announced by Acer is the Liquid Z410, an LTE smartphone that’s got a 64-bit quad-core processor of its own. Also included is a 4.5-inch 960x540 touchscreen, 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing cam with wide angle lens, and DTS Studio Sound for “astonishing sound with spacious wide-effect.”
Acer’s Liquid Z410 includes AcerRAPID, which lets you set customizable actions on your device, as well as Acer QuickTouch for using gestures to launch apps. For example, you can make a Z shape on the lock screen to launch the music player.
The Acer Liquid Z410 will launch at the end of February in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at a starting price of €129 (~$155 USD).
So there’s two of Acer’s new smartphone offerings for CES 2015. The Liquid Jade S looks to have some nice higher-end specs, including a 13-megapixel rear camera, for a price that’s easy on the wallet when compared to other flagships. Meanwhile, the Liquid Z410’s got a smaller size and a focus on audio features for an even more affordable price.
