Rumors have suggested that Samsung is crafting an entirely new design for the Galaxy S6, and today we may be getting our very first peek at that hardware.
Images shared by French site Nowhere Else (Google Translate) claim to show the body of the Samsung Galaxy S6. The rear cover appears to be all metal, with cutouts for things like the camera, flash, and likely some plastic strips for the wireless antennas. The sides lack any sort of cutouts for a volume rocker or lock button, but that could be because this is an early prototype part.
The design of the phone itself is reminiscent of other recent Samsung flagships. The centered cutouts for the rear camera and flash look like the ones found on the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4, and the flat sides and rounded corners looks like the shape of the Note 4.
Samsung has caught a lot of flak for having plastic-y phones in the past, but lately the company has been transitioning to metal. That started with the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 and their metal edges, and more recently we saw the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 offer full metal builds. As a result, there’s a chance that Samsung could offer a metal Galaxy S6 in an effort to offer a more premium build for its flagship smartphone.
You should take any leak with a grain or two of salt, and that’s doubly true with rumors surrounding hotly-anticipated products like the Galaxy S6. That said, this leak does have the makings of what we’d expect to see from a metal-clad Samsung flagship. Whether or not the S6 will indeed offer a metal body will remain a mystery for another couple of months, but for now we can at least examine this leak and debate whether or not Samsung should offer a metal GS6.
