After announcing earlier this month that its LTE service covers more than 260 million Americans and that its Wideband LTE coverage is in 121 metro areas, T-Mobile today issued some predictions for how its LTE network will look in 2015.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere says that T-Mobile plans to cover 300 million Americans with Magenta’s LTE network in 2015. As of this writing, it reaches 264 million Americans.
Looking at T-Mobile’s LTE network enhancements, Legere says that T-Mo’s 700MHz spectrum will be deployed to users in 350 metro areas, while Wideband LTE will reach “more than 150 metro areas.” The 700MHz spectrum will bring improved in-building coverage, while Wideband LTE increases bandwidth and capacity to T-Mo’s LTE network, which results in faster data speeds.
Finally, Legere predicts that T-Mobile will pass Sprint in 2015 to become the number three wireless carrier in the U.S. Legere originally predicted that this would happen by the end of 2014, and while it may still happen in 2014 depending on how the two companies’ Q4 earnings play out, Legere is confident that T-Mo will pass Sprint next year.
While T-Mobile is known for offering some great deals and plans with its Un-carrier moves, Ol’ Magenta is often criticized for its network coverage. Legere recognizes this and says that he plans to continue to listen to his customers and expand T-Mobile’s service, which is good to hear. Now we just have to wait and see exactly how much T-Mobile’s network actually improves in 2015.
