Recent rumors have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S5 could get updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop as soon as December. As is usually the case with big updates like these, though, details on the GS5’s update have leaked out ahead of time.
The folks at SamMobile have gotten hold of what’s said to be an early build of the Galaxy S5’s Lollipop update that’s newer than the one that leaked in early October. This update is based on Android 5.0 build LRX02E and includes the Lollipop Easter egg, but references to lollipops have been omitted, possibly to prevent the dessert from leaked ahead of its official reveal.
Compared to the build that leaked in early October, this newer update contains a number of tweaks to make it look better and fit in more with Android 5.0’s Material Design look. Those changes include a updated system font, smoother animations, an improved Material Design look for several apps, new icon colors and an updated user interface for the Settings app.
Overall this update looks to be a nice improvement compared to the one that leaked a month ago. This is still an early build, though, and so it’ll be interesting to see what the final update looks like and how Samsung mixes Android 5.0’s Material Design with its own TouchWiz user interface.
What do you think of Samsung’s Android 5.0 update so far?
