Less than a month after introducing five new Android-powered devices in its Life series of smartphones, BLU Products today announced yet another new handset running Google's mobile operating system. Things are a little different this time, though, because this one's a member of the VIVO Series that utilizes Super AMOLED displays.
The new device is known as the BLU VIVO 4.8 HD, and just as you might've guessed from its name, it features a 4.8-inch HD display. The Super AMOLED panel features a 1280x720 resolution, and there's also a 5-megapixel shooter on the VIVO 4.8 HD's face. Around back lives an 8-megapixel camera with BSI sensor.
Diving into the VIVO 4.8 HD's 6.9mm-thick body, we're greeted by a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor, 1GB of RAM and a 2000mAh battery that powers the whole package. Also included is 16GB of storage and 42Mbps HSPA+ connectivity on either the 850/1900MHz or 850/2100MHz bands. The VIVO 4.8 HD comes preloaded with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
BLU says that the VIVO 4.8 HD will be available in Matte Black, Ceramic White, Electric Neon Yellow, and Glimmer Pink color options and, just like its other offerings, the device will be sold unlocked. The VIVO 4.8 HD features a price tag of $250 and is already in production and being shipped to various distributors and online retailers in the U.S. and Latin America.
Overall the VIVO 4.8 HD looks like a respectable addition to BLU's lineup. The phone's 4.8-inch screen size is a good fit for folks that want a smartphone with a display that's big but not too big, and at $250 unlocked and contract-free, it's an affordable option for folks that want a new device but don't feel like signing their name on the dotted line of a carrier contract or payment plan.
