As was rumored earlier today, Apple has begun selling unlocked versions of the iPhone 5 on its website. The unlocked iPhone 5 models are GSM and are offered in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants for $649, $749 and $849, respectively. All of the variants are currently listed as being available to ship in one week.
Since the unlocked iPhone 5 is compatible with GSM networks, U.S. buyers can use the device with a carrier such as AT&T and T-Mobile, the latter of which has been refarming its 1900MHz network for HSPA+ coverage that the iPhone 5 can access. That 1900MHz HSPA+ service is live in 15 markets. T-Mobile customers in non-refarmed networks will only have access to the carrier's 2G EDGE service.
Apple notes that the unlocked iPhone 5 doesn't come with a nano-SIM, so buyers will need to get one from their carrier of choice. If you've been nodding your head and reaching for your wallet while reading all of this, you can navigate to Apple's online store using the link below and get to buying.
