Nearly a full year after the iPhone 4 originally launched here in the U.S., Apple has finally made an unlocked GSM version of its newest handset available. Customers interested in picking up the carrier agnostic device can expect to pay $649.00 for the 16GB model or $749.00 for the 32GB version. Of course, it's worth pointing out that even though these iPhones do come unlocked, users will only be able to access 3G speeds with AT&T.
Although an unlocked iPhone 4 here in the U.S. may not be as big a deal as it is in countries where the device works with multiple carriers, it's still good to see Apple finally make the device available for those of us that like to travel abroad and for T-Mobile customers that are ok with using an EDGE-only device. The pricing of the year-old unlocked handsets may seem a little steep for some, especially when compared with their on-contract counterparts, but, as the saying goes, freedom isn't free.
