Last night saw Andy Rubin demo a prototype of a Motorola-made Android tablet for the crowd at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference and set Android fans' hearts aflutter.  If you love tablets but would prefer something with Apple's fingerprints on it, though, we've got a little news for you, too.  According to sources speaking with Digitimes, Foxconn has been notified that they'll begin shipping the iPad 2 within the next 100 days, aka February, and that the first shipments will be around 400,000-600,000 devices.  Apparently the iPad 2 was supposed to be put into mass production next month, but firmware tests pushed that date back.

If the second iPad began shipping in February, that would seem to lineup well with an April launch for the device, which isn't surprising considering Apple's predictable one-year refresh cycle.  We're still not quite sure what Apple will do to differentiate the iPad 2 from its predecessor, but a camera or two for FaceTime seems like an obvious inclusion, as does a thinner/lighter housing.  Some sort of Retina Display is rumored, too, but after reading this article, I'm not completely sold.  For the iPad to have a Retina Display, it would have to sport a resolution of around 2560x1920, which would be pretty crazy.  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it as much as anyone else, but I'm not holding my breath.  Are there any other additions, like more storage, that you'd like to see in the iPad 2?
