Gizmodo today confirmed what we already more or less knew: Apple CEO Steve Jobs will unveil the next-generation iPhone during his keynote address at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference June 9 in San Francisco. What makes this news is that the 3G iPhone will go on sale immediately upon launch via global retail channels, according to a source "very very close" to the launch plans.
What's extra interesting about this is that the report goes on to say that the new model will also usher in some changes in Apple's pricing policy. This means we could see something along the lines of a "$199 with two-year contract" iPhone, as has been speculated in recent weeks. "According to another source involved in the launch, the 3G iPhone will
no longer be available at a fixed price point," the Gizmodo article reads. "At least in some
countries, and its launch will also bring new sales policies, although
these have not been completely specified yet."
