Google Translate is getting the ability to perform live translations.
Google today announced a new Transcribe feature for Google Translate that'll translate someone's speech while they're talking. Just make sure that you've got the latest version of the Google Translate app for Android, tap on the "Transcribe" button, and select the source and target languages.
To start, Transcribe will work with any combination of the following languages: English, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai. Google says that it'll work best in a quiet environment with one person speaking at a time, but that it'll do its best to give you the gist of what's being said in other environments, too.
In addition to translating someone's speech as it's happening, the Transcribe feature also lets you pause or restart a transcription, see the original transcript, change the text size, and enable a dark theme.
Transcribe will be rolling out in the Google Translate app for Android over the coming days, so keep an eye out for it.
