After first teasing Ambient Mode at the start of September, Google has now begun rolling the new feature out.
Ambient Mode is a new feature that'll give you quick access to the info that the Google Assistant thinks you might need at a certain time. While your phone is charging, Ambient Mode might alert you to a missed call, tell you when your next meeting is, and let you know if you've got any notifications.
You can also use Ambient Mode to control any music you've got playing at the time. If you've got smart home devices. Ambient Mode can give you shortcuts to turn them on or off. There's a quick toggle for Do Not Disturb, too. And if you'd rather relax and just look at your favorite photos on your phone's big screen, Ambient Mode can turn your phone into a digital photo frame.
Google has told Ars Technica's Ron Amadeo that Ambient Mode requires Android 8.1 and Google's new search app. Ambient Mode is now rolling out to devices from Sony, Nokia, Xiaomi, and Transsion, and it should hit most of the devices that are slated to get it by next week.
Ambient Mode looks like a feature that'll turn your smartphone into a mini smart display, putting it to good use while it's charging. If you've got a phone from Sony, Nokia, Xiaomi, or Transsion, keep an eye out for Ambient Mode in the coming days!
