When it launched Android Auto Wireless on Pixel and Nexus phones last year, Google said that the feature would be coming to non-Google devices, too. A year-and-a-half later, that's finally coming true.
Google says that Android Auto Wireless is now supported on several Samsung Galaxy smartphones. According to a Google Support document (via Android Police), Android Auto Wireless works on the following models:
To use Android Auto Wireless, your Samsung phone will need to be running Android 9.0 Pie or higher. You'll also need version 4.7 of the Android Auto app and an Android Auto Wireless-compatible head unit.
The obvious benefit of Android Auto Wireless is that you won't need to plug your phone into your car to use Android Auto while you're in the vehicle. Not only does that save you a step when you first start up your car, it also saves you the trouble of unplugging the device when you get out of your car.
Now that we're finally seeing Android Auto Wireless expand beyond Google's Nexus and Pixel phones, hopefully more devices will gain support soon.
