There was a lot of excitement around Inbox, Google's new email app, when it launched in early 2014. At the time, it gave you a new way to work through your email more efficiently and even got some new features before Gmail. Unfortunately for fans of Inbox, though, it looks like the app will soon be dead.
Google confirmed today that it's going to kill off Inbox at the end of March 2019. "As we look to the future, we want to take a more focused approach that will help us bring the best email experience to everyone," Google explains. The company has even put together a guide showing Inbox users how to get to their favorite features in Gmail.
Inbox has always been a kind of second fiddle to Gmail, and it seems like Google has been focusing on Inbox less and less in recent months. That's why it's not exactly surprising to learn that Inbox is finally going to be killed off. It's still kind of a bummer for anyone that still uses Inbox regularly, though. At least those people have plenty of notice that their preferred email app is going away.
