Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge receiving new update 4 1/2 years after launch

Earlier this year we were surprised when the Samsung Galaxy S7 got a new software update, four years after its launch. Most of us expected that to be the last update the Galaxy S7 ever got, but it turns out that it wasn't.

Samsung is now rolling out a new software update to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Folks on Reddit say that they've been getting their update over the past week or so, and so far it looks like the update is going out in Canada and the UK.

As for what's included in this update, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are receiving the September 1, 2020 security patch level.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge launched four and a half years ago and are no longer on Samsung's list of devices receiving regular security updates. Because of all that, it's kind of surprising to see them getting new updates this week.

A small security update like this may not seem super exciting, but for anyone still rocking a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge in 2020, it is good to see Samsung still supporting the former flagships with important security patches.
