After launching its 5G Nationwide network earlier this week, Verizon has now begun the process of updating its existing phones to support that coverage.
Verizon confirmed today that it's released updates for several Samsung phones, including the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra as well as the Galaxy S20 series, to support its new 5G Nationwide network. Owners should get a notification for their new update in the next few days.
Here's the full list of devices that are now getting an update to support Verizon's 5G Nationwide coverage:
Verizon plans to release updates for "select 5G Android phones" over the coming days and weeks to enable 5G Nationwide support. New 5G phones launching starting this week, like the new Motorola One 5G UW, will support 5G Nationwide coverage out of the box.
Verizon's 5G Nationwide network is available in more than 1,800 cities. It uses low-band spectrum to reach farther than Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband network, but it's not nearly as fast as the 5G UW coverage. Verizon is using a technology called Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) to deploy its 5G Nationwide coverage, which allows its 5G service to run alongside its 4G LTE on the same spectrum band.
