Lots of devices have "Find My" features that help you locate your lost phone, watch, or whatever, but what do you do when your lost device doesn't have an internet connection? Samsung's got the answer.
Samsung has added an offline locator to its Find my Mobile feature. The feature uses other people's Galaxy devices to locate your lost phone even when it's not connected to a network. Enabling this feature also allows your Galaxy phone to be used to scan for lost Galaxy devices that may be nearby.
You can also use Find my Mobile to locate watches and earbuds using the last device they were connected to.
This feature is rolling out as part of an update to version 7.1.08.0 of Samsung's Find my Mobile app, as noted by Max Weinbach and 9to5Google. It's not enabled by default, but Samsung will send you an alert when it's available on your phone so that you can turn it on if you'd like.
Smartphones are rarely not connected to a network because they have cellular and Wi-Fi to rely on, but this offline Find my Mobile feature could still be useful in instances like if your phone is stolen and its SIM card is removed. It would also be handy for devices without a cellular connection, like a tablet or earbuds.
Being able to locate a lost device even if its offline sounds like a pretty neat feature, and we're glad to see more ways to help us locate our devices if they're lost or stolen.
