Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset announced with faster performance and graphics

The Snapdragon 865 is Qualcomm's high-end mobile processor, and today the company is introducing a beefed up version of it.

Qualcomm today announced the Snapdragon 865 Plus. It's a gaming-focused chipset that offers speedier performance and graphics over the  non-Plus Snapdragon 865 to help you get a better gaming experiece on your phone.

The Snapdragon 865 Plus includes the same Kryo 585 CPU as the regular 865, but the Plus model has a 10 percent higher max clock speed of 3.1GHz. The Adreno 650 GPU in the Snapdragon 865 Plus also boasts 10 percent faster graphics rendering than the non-Plus Snapdragon 865.

Mobile gaming has been around for as long as there has been mobile phones, but we've seen a much larger focus on playing games on your phone lately. New phones focused on gaming have triggers, LED lights, and special cooling systems, and mobile games themselves are getting better graphics and online multiplayer. Qualcomm says that devices with the Snapdragon 865 Plus will be announced in the third quarter of 2020. ASUS confirmed today that its upcoming ROG Phone 3 will be powered by the Snadpragon 865 Plus, and Lenovo is working on its own gaming phone called Legion that'll also have the Snapdragon 865 Plus inside it.
