Just a week after a report claimed that Apple may ship the iPhone 12 without a charger in the box, we're now hearing that Samsung may start doing the same thing.
Samsung will reportedly begin shipping some new phones without chargers in their boxes starting in 2021. That's according to a ETNews, which says Samsung made this decision to reduce costs and because smartphone chargers are so widespread.
There's no word yet on exactly when Samsung may begin excluding chargers from its new smartphones or which models won't ship with a charger in the box.
Another reason that Samsung might skip including a charger with some of its smartphones next year is the environmental impact. Many, many people already own a smartphone that they have a charger for, and they may have another portable device with a charger they could use for their phone. This means they wouldn't need a new charger when they buy a new phone, which could help to cut down on e-waste.
Apple and Samsung are two of the biggest smartphone makers around, so it'd be a pretty big deal if they do start shipping new phones without a charger in the box. And because they're so large, we could start to see other smartphone makers do the same thing.
What do you think of this news? Would you be ok with not getting a charger with your next phone?
