Samsung updating Galaxy A51 and A71 with features from Galaxy S20

Samsung today announced that it's making its recent Galaxy A phones better with new features from the Galaxy S20 flagships.

A new software update will bring several features of the Galaxy S20 phones to the Galaxy A51 and A71. New camera features include Pro Mode settings like manual focus and shutter speed, Night Hyperlapse, and My Filters, which will let you create your own image filters using photos in your camera roll.

Another new camera feature coming to the Galaxy A51 and A71 is Single Take. By tapping a single button, the phone will capture the scene using several modes at once, such as Live Focus, Smart Crop, video, and AI filter. You can then view all the shots in the Gallery and choose which one you like best.

New sharing features for the Galaxy A51 and A71 include Quick Share, which lets you quickly beam files to nearby Samsung devices, as well as Music Share that lets a friend connect to your Bluetooth speaker or headphones using your phone's connection.

When you begin typing in the search bar in your app tray, you'll now get a selection of apps, settings, Quick Panel, and Contacts search results that your phone predicts you'll want. This update also enables you to translate text directly from the keyboard tray and undo or redo your most recent keyboard action by swiping left or right with two fingers on the keyboard.

Finally, this new update brings a couple of Gallery features to the Galaxy A51 and A71. Clean View will bundle up to 100 of your photos together to help make your Gallery a bit more organized, while Quick Crop will let you zoom in on an image with two fingers and then crop the shot with the tap of a button.

The Galaxy A51 and A71 are attractive smartphones to consumers who don't want to spend $1,000 on a flagship device because they offer good designs and flagship-tier features at a mid-tier price point. Now they're being updated with new software features that originally appeared on the Galaxy S20 flagships, making the Galaxy A51 and A71 an even more enticing option for someone in the market for a more affordable smartphone.
