The OnePlus 8 Pro doesn't officially launch until April 29th, but some folks have already started getting their pre-order units. Unfortunately, the excitment of getting a new phone early is being diminished by display problems on some units.
Some OnePlus 8 Pro owners on Reddit and the OnePlus forums are complaining of issues with their device's OLED display, including image retention and lines appearing around the hole-punch. Some folks are seeing a green tint on their screen and low brightness issues, while others complain of crushed blacks.
Of the OP8 Pro owners that've encountered display problems, some say that they've lessened their issues by doing things like lowering the screen refresh rate. Others claim that they've had luck turning on DC Dimming by going into Utilities > OnePlus Laboratory > DC Dimming.
OnePlus has said that it's aware of these issues and that it's planning updates to address them. Here's the company's statement to Android Police:
"OnePlus values user feedback and is committed to delivering the best smartphone experience. Our team is currently investigating these reports to identify the best solutions for our users, and we will issue updates as soon as they are ready."
Display issues like these can be frustrating, especially after you've just spent nearly $1,000 on a new flagship smartphone. It's good to see OnePlus acknowledge the issues that some OnePlus 8 Pro owners are having and confirming that some updates are in the works, with a fix for the green tint issue expected in the next OTA update and a fix for the crushed blacks said to be coming in May. We'll have to wait and see just how well OnePlus's updates address the problems that users are having.
