iOS 14 may bring better widget support

One of the major features that Android has had over iOS is widgets. Android users have long been able to place widgets anywhere they'd like on their home screen, giving them glanceable info and quick controls. iOS only recently began offering widgets on a single screen, but Apple may soon expand that functionality to be more like Android.

Apple is reportedly working on offering full on widgets in iOS. The folks at 9to5Mac say they've spotted some code in iOS 14 that hints at support for real widgets that can be moved around on your home screen just like any app icon. This feature is internally known as "Avocado".

Today's report also mentions that the feature is still being developed by Apple, and as such, it could end up being killed off.

Right now all of the iOS widgets live on a single screen that you access by swiping right from your home or lock screen, but with this new feature, you could place them anywhere you want so they'd be way more accessible. Plus, this feature would give iOS home screens a major shakeup and allow users to make them much more personal.

In other iOS 14 leak news, Apple could be working on new wallpaper settings for its next major update. Screenshots shared by DongleBookPro on Twitter show that Apple is working on wallpaper collections to help make the wallpapers better organized.

The screenshots also show a "Home Screen Appearance" setting that could let you use smart dynamic wallpapers for your home screen. That includes a flat color, a blurred one, and a dark version of your current wallpaper.
