Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip launches on February 14

Following the launch of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung has officially unpacked its newest foldable phone design.

The Galaxy Z Flip looks more traditional, insofar that it folds and unfolds like the flip phones of years ago, unlike the Galaxy Fold's landscape idea from last year. Samsung has also introduced some new software features that should help the Galaxy Z Flip stand out, too. But let's get to the specs.

The Galaxy Z Flip features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED Display with an aspect ratio of 21.9:9 when it's unfolded, with a resolution of 2636x1880. When the phone is flip closed there is a secondary, smaller Super AMOLED display that measures in at 1.1 inches.

There are three cameras in total on the Galaxy Z Flip. A 10-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.4 and 80-degree field of view (FOV), a 12-megapixel ultra wide camera with an f/2.2 and 123-degree FOV, and finally a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera with an f/1.8. This last camera also supports shooting in HDR10+, tracking autofocus, and up to 8X digital zoom.

Under the hood there is a 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.95GHz, and the handset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage. The dual-battery measures in at 3300mAh. The handset supports wireless charging, Samsung's Wireless PowerShare to charge other wireless charging devices, NFC for mobile payments, and a USB-C port for wired connectivity.

The Galaxy Z Flip runs Android 10 out of the box.

This newest foldable phone has plenty of them, including what Samsung calls "Flex Mode". With this, when the handset is "free standing", the handset's displays will automatically split into two 4-inch screens, making it easy to "view images, contents or videos on the top half of the display, and control them on the bottom half." The handset also supports Samsung's "Multi-Active Window", letting you choose which apps to open for quick multitasking.

Samsung says that availability will be limited to start. The Galaxy Z Flip will be available in Mirror Purple and Mirror Black in select regions, including the United States and South Korea, beginning Friday, February 14, 2020. It will retail for $1,380. An additional color, Mirror Gold, will arrive in select markets at a later date.
