Good news to all Android users. Google has decided to expand its Google Play Store rewards system to the U.S.
The rewards system, called Google Play Points, was first unveiled over a year ago in Japan and South Korea. Now that the program is available in the U.S., customers can enjoy the benefits they get with their purchases from the Google Play Store.
So how does it work? The Google Play Points program rewards customers on their movies, books, games, and in-app purchases. Every dollar you spend on such purchases will let you earn one point. Once you have accumulated enough points, you can redeem it for Play Credit. In return, you can use your Play Credit to make purchases from the Play Store.
An advantage of the program is that customers have access to exclusive material. According to Google, the points earned may be used to unlock special in-app content for games like Candy Crush Saga or Pokemon GO. Google did not go into too much detail on this advantage yet but they should reveal more information soon. Play Points may also be used to make donations at select non-profit organizations.
When you acquire enough points in a year, you can also reach a higher level (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum). This also entitles you to special perks from the Google Play Store.
The best part about the program is that it is free to join and does not come with any monthly fees. Make sure to keep an eye out when Google offers triple points on your purchases made within the first week you sign up for the program.
The rewards program is expected to roll out to Android devices by next week. You can learn more about Google Play Points here.
