Earlier this month, an icon was discovered inside the iOS 13.2 beta that suggested that Apple is working on new AirPods with a different design than the one we're used to. Now a new report claims to have more info on the upcoming earphones.
The new AirPods Pro could be announced as soon as the end of October in order to get them on shelves in time for the holidays. That's according to a new report from Chinese publication Economic Daily, which also claims that these new AirPods could be available in as many as eight colors. These could include black, white, and midnight green to match the iPhone 11 Pro.
In addition to those new colors, the AirPods Pro are rumored to have noise cancellation and water resistance as well as a wireless charging case. These new features are expected to drive up the cost of the AirPods Pro, with pricing around $260. To compare, the current AirPods start at $159 for the model with the standard charging case and go up to $199 for the version that includes a wireless charging case.
While the AirPods Pro could carry a premium price compared to the current AirPods, the upgrades that are rumored to be included with them could be worth it for a lot of people. Noise cancellation could help the sound a bit, and it's possible that Apple could make other improvements to boost the sound quality of these "pro" earphones. Waterproofing would be another great addition, especially for those folks who work out with AirPods.
Apple does currently sell the Powerbeats Pro earphones, which are truly wireless, have water and sweat resistance, and Apple's H1 chip for integration with iOS devices. The Powerbeats Pro have a bit of a sporty look including hooks to keep them in place during workouts, though, and so these AirPods Pro could be appealing to people who like the look of AirPods but would like noise cancellation and water resistance.
If these rumors about the AirPods Pro turned out to be true, would you be interested in a pair?
