Mario Kart Tour now available on Android, iPhone, and iPad

More than a year and a half after it was first announced, Mario Kart Tour is finally here.

Mario Kart Tour is now available for download on Android, iPhone, and iPad. The game takes the popular Mario Kart racing and puts in on your smartphone, having you drag your finger left and right to take turns and drift. You collect items throughout a race that can do things like give you a speed boost, lay a banana peel on the track, or let you hurl a shell at an opponent.

The game offers several different courses and has you racing in in cup competitions. There's also a multiplayer option for racing, but as of today it only says that multiplayer is coming in a future update.

Mario Kart Tour is free to start, but there are in-app purchases available. Those include a Gold Pass, which is $4.99 per month with a two-week free trial. A Gold Pass gets you Gold Gifts for racing in tours, like characters and karts, as well as in-game badges and a faster 200cc racing mode.

Mario Kart is one of the biggest franchises in gaming, and so it's a big deal to see it land on mobile devices. The game looks and feels like Mario Kart, though obviously the controls have been simplified to work on a touchscreen rather than a controller with several physical buttons. Considering just how popular Mario Kart is, we're betting that there will be lots of folks trying out Mario Kart Tour now that it's finally on mobile devices.
