There are lots of dating apps and services out there for anyone looking for love, and now Facebook is rolling out its own dating service.
Facebook Dating is launching in the U.S. Starting today, you can opt in to Facebook Dating and create a Dating profile that's separate from your regular Facebook profile. You must be at least 18 years old and have the latest version of Facebook to create a Dating profile.
Once you've made a Dating profile, you'll be suggested to others who have opted in to Facebook Dating. Suggestions are made based on your preferences, interests, and other things you do on Facebook. If you find someone you're interested in, you can comment on their profile or tap on a Like button to let them know. Facebook won't match you with your existing friends unless you both add each other to your Secret Crush list.
Facebook is also planning to integrate Instagram into Facebook Dating. This includes the ability to add Instagram posts to your profile and support for sharing Facebook and Instagram Stories to help you show people what you're interested in.
When it comes to security, Facebook promises that "safety, security, and privacy are at the forefront" of Facebook Dating. Users can report or block anyone; prevent people from sending photos, links, payments or videos in messages; and more. Facebook also says that all of your Dating activity will stay in your Facebook Dating profile and won't be shared to the rest of Facebook.
In addition to the U.S., Facebook Dating is live in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay, and Vietnam. It's expected to launch in Europe by early 2020.
While there are already a lot of choices for dating services, there are a ton of people who are already on Facebook and so they might be more inclined to try out Facebook Dating rather than sign up for and set up a whole new, dedicated dating app. What do you think of Facebook Dating?
