One of the things that makes Casio's Wear OS smartwatches stand out is their rugged design, making them great partners for your outdoor adventures. Now Casio is prepping another rugged wearable.
The Casio WSD-F21HR is launching this September, and its major addition is a heart rate monitor. The WSD-F21HR is the first Casio smartwatch with an optical hear rate sensor. It measures your heart rate using a flashing LED on your wrist and then expresses it in one of five heart rate zones, along with elapsed time and more.
Casio is also packing an enhanced Activity App into the WSD-F21HR to go along with its heart rate sensor. The app now includes Running and Trail Running menus that show measurement data in real time. The types of info that the app can show include heart rate, total time, pace, total distance, average speed, calories consumed, altitude, elevation gain, and more.
Other specs of the Casio WSD-F21HR is a 1.32-inch dual layer display with a 320x300 color LCD and a monochrome LCD to help you save battery life. It's also got Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi, a compass, an altimeter, a barometer, and a GPS. The WSD-F21HR can import GPS log data so that you can see your previous routes, and you can download up to five maps.
The case of the Casio WSD-F21HR is MIL-STD-810G compliant for added durability and its water resistant up to 50 meters.
Casio says that the WSD-F21HR will cost $499 when it arrives next month.
It's good to see Casio continue its line of rugged Wear OS smartwatches, giving consumers interested in a Wear OS watch an option for a toughened device that can withstand the great outdoors. The addition of an optical heart rate sensor means you can use the WSD-F21HR to track your workout and then take it with you on a hike, or make it your new training partner if you're running or biking on trails.
