It's only been four months since Xiaomi introduced the Black Shark 2, but today the company decided to amp up its new gaming phone with an improved model.
The Black Shark 2 Pro is official, and its big upgrade over the non-Pro Black Shark 2 is that it's got Qualcomm's new gaming-focused Snapdragon 855 Plus processor. Compared to the Snapdragon 855 that's in the Black Shark 2, the Snapdragon 855 Plus has a higher CPU clock speed and improved GPU performance.
Xiaomi also touts that the Black Shark 2 Pro has "the first and only direct touch multilayer liquid cooling system in the world." This system can reduce the temperature of the CPU by up to 14 degrees, helping to keep things running cool during intense gaming sessions.
Another upgrade made to the Black Shark 2 Pro is with its display. While the 6.39-inch 2340x1080 AMOLED panel is the same as the Black Shark 2, the new Black Shark 2 Pro has a reduced response speed of 34.7ms, down from 43.5ms on the Black Shark 2. Xiaomi appears to have given the design of the back of the Black Shark 2 Pro a bit of a refresh, too.
Many of the Black Shark 2 Pro's specs remain similar to the non-Pro model. There's a dual rear camera setup with a 48MP main sensor and a 12MP telephoto cam with 2x optical zoom, a 20MP front camera, USB-C, and a 4000mAh battery. There's an in-display fingerprint sensor, too, and 12GB of RAM. The Black Shark 2 Pro also includes 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.
The Black Shark 2 Pro will launch soon in China with pricing starting at 2999 yuan ($436 USD) for the 12GB/128GB model. Stepping up to the 12GB/256GB version will set you back 3499 yuan ($508 USD).
