Three months after Samsung officially delayed the Galaxy Fold, we've finally got a new release date for the foldable smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold will launch in September in "select markets." Samsung isn't saying much else about the Galaxy Fold's release right now, but it promises that it'll share more details closer to the rollout.
The Galaxy Fold was originally slated to launch on April 26, but a couple weeks before that date, some units suffered from broken displays just days after getting into the hands of reviewers. Samsung explains that it has made improvements to the Galaxy Fold since it delayed the device and run tests to validate those changes.
Samsung has extended the top protective layer of the phone's Infinity Flex display, pushing it beyond the bezel to show that it's an important part of the phone and not a screen protector that you need to remove.
Another change is that Samsung has reinforced the Galaxy Fold to protect it from particles getting into the device. The top and bottom parts of the hinge have gotten protection caps and the space between the hinge and body of the phone has been reduced. There are also additional metal layers underneath the Galaxy Fold's Infinity Flex Display to reinforce its protection.
In addition to improving the Galaxy Fold hardware, Samsung has taken the time to optimize more apps and services for the foldable device.

One other detail worth noting is that Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Fold's price will not change. That means if you plan on buying this updated Galaxy Fold, it'll cost you $1,980.
As Samsung's Galaxy Fold delay dragged on, there was some speculation that the device might just get canceled. It's good to see that the Fold will indeed make it to store shelves later this year, and while we can't make any final judgments about it until we get our hands on the updated model, the improvements that Samsung has made do sound like they'll help to better protect the Galaxy Fold. This is still an early adopter device, especially at the $1,980 price, but now those folks who enjoy being early adopters know that they will be able to get their hands on the Galaxy Fold.
