We learned earlier this year that Huawei is working on its own OS, and with President Trump's recent executive order that could limit Huawei's ability to sell new Android phones, that custom OS could come in handy. Now it sounds like it may launch later this year.

Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu has reportedly said that Huawei could launch its own mobile OS as soon as fall 2019. Phoenix Network Technology claims that Yu said this in a private chat, adding that the launch will happen in spring 2020 at the latest.

Meanwhile, a report from Caijing sheds more light on Huawei's own OS. The operating system is said to be compatible with all Android apps, and the report also claims that if an Android app is recompiled, its performance will be 60 percent better on this Huawei OS.

Huawei's operating system is said to work on computers, tablets, TVs, cars, and wearable devices in addition to smartphones.

We've heard that Huawei has been working on its own mobile OS since 2012, and so it'll be interesting to see what it looks like if Huawei does indeed launch the OS this year. Compatibility with Android apps is huge because it would be tough to convince consumers to try your new platform if there weren't a variety of popular apps available. Now we'll have to wait and see how Huawei's situation with the U.S. government will play out, because that'll determine if Huawei is required to launch its own OS after losing access to Gooogle apps like the Play Store.
