It's hard to argue that OnePlus isn't on a bit of a streak. The company has definitely made a name for itself over the years, growing plenty of goodwill along the way. It hasn't always been rainbows and butterflies, especially with that lottery system they had back in the day.
But the growing pains faded away and OnePlus found its groove. So much so, in fact, that the company has been releasing two smartphones a year for quite some time. The first to set the bar in the beginning of the year, and the second, with upgraded specifications, to close things out.
So will we see three new phones this year?
I can't help but wonder. Earlier this week we saw OnePlus announce not only the OnePlus 7 Pro, but also the OnePlus 7. The latter handset is only for certain markets across the globe and it definitely didn't get as much attention as the Pro model. But if OnePlus sticks to its annual routine, we might see a slightly upgraded version of the OnePlus 7 Pro (or the OnePlus 7 for that matter) release later this year.
But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. If we come to it. For now, let's keep our attention on the OnePlus 7 Pro and whether or not it's worth upgrading to. Obviously this is purely subjective, but that's why I'm curious. And I'm most curious to hear from the folks who bought a OnePlus 6T late last year (or even early this year).
Sticking to a routine can be pretty easy when it comes to smartphones. For the most part we know when a new device is coming, because the companies like to keep it all fairly certain. We know Apple is going to launch new iPhones at the end of the year. Samsung will launch a Galaxy S flagship at the beginning of it, and then, near the end, we'll get a new flagship Galaxy Note. So on and so forth.
OnePlus is the same. Or has been, up until this week. We got a "normal" version of a phone, like the OnePlus 6, which was worthwhile in its own right. But then later in the year we got the upgraded variant, the OnePlus 6T. This year we have the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro at the same time, which means your time with the OnePlus 6T was cut significantly short if you plan on upgrading.
As I said above, there's a chance we see some kind of upgraded model of the OnePlus 7 Pro later this year, but that doesn't feel definitive. Maybe a OnePlus 7T? Either way, the OnePlus 7 Pro is certainly a high-end, flagship handset that's worth considering.
But is it worth considering if you bought the OnePlus 6T? That's what I want to know from the folks who did buy one. If you've been buying the T-variant of OnePlus's smartphones, are you planning on upgrading (early) to the OnePlus 7 Pro? And, if so, what about the newest handset won you over? Let me know!
