Samsung Galaxy Fold is reportedly being delayed until at least May

Following multiple Galaxy Fold review units breaking last week, Samsung insisted that it was sticking with the April 26th launch for its foldable phone. Now it sounds like the company has changed its mind.

Samsung is delaying the Galaxy Fold's launch until at least May. That's according to sources speaking to the Wall Street Journal, who add that a new release date should be announced in the coming weeks. Samsung hasn't made any official announcements regarding a delay, but the company did postpone Galaxy Fold launch events in China that had been scheduled for this week.

Today's report also says that Samsung has determined that the Galaxy Fold's display issues are being caused on its hinge that's putting extra pressure on the internal screen of the device.

Last week, the internal 7.3-inch display of some Galaxy Fold units that were in the hands of reviewers suddenly stopped working. Some had broken because a protective layer on top of the internal screen had been peeled off, but some units had that protective layer intact and also broke. Samsung responded by saying that it was going to investigate the problems but that its Galaxy Fold launch on April 26th was still on, but now the company has apparently decided to delay the launch. Hopefully it can get the issue sorted out so that those folks who want to plunk down $1,980 for a Galaxy Fold can do so without having to worry about the internal screen breaking.
