There's still no word on when T-Mobile's TV service will launch, what it'll look like, or how much it'll cost, but we do know one thing: Whenever it does arrive, it'll have Viacom channels.
Viacom and T-Mobile have struck a deal that'll see Viacom channels on T-Mobile's mobile video services. This includes channels like MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, and Paramount. The deal enables T-Mobile to offer live linear feeds of Viacom channels and on-demand content.
T-Mobile has said that it expects to launch its TV service in the first half of 2019, but that's about all we know about the pay TV service so far. T-Mo previously bought Layer3 TV to help with its video ambitions, and it's been offering the Layer3 TV product in select cities to gain feedback before launching its all-new service. Images of a T-Mobile-branded set-top box appeared in the FCC late last year, but that's about all we've got to go on about T-Mo's TV service so far.
“Viacom represents the best of the best, most-popular brands on cable, so they are an amazing partner for us!” said T-Mobile CEO John Legere. “TV programming has never been better, but consumers are fed up with rising costs, hidden fees, lousy customer service, non-stop BS. And Macgyvering together a bunch of subscriptions, apps and dongles isn’t much better. That’s why T-Mobile is on a mission to give consumers a better way to watch what they want, when they want.”
