Razer Phone 2 will begin getting Android Pie update next week

We've seen Android Pie continue its rollout lately, hitting devices like the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, and Galaxy Note 8, and soon the Razer Phone 2 will get a piece of Pie, too.

The Razer Phone 2 will begin receiving its Android Pie update next week. Specifically, the update will begin hitting unlocked devices on February 27th, according to 9to5Google, while carrier models will begin getting the update on March 14th. It's expected that AT&T will begin rolling the update to its Razer Phone 2 on April 4th.

Today's report also includes some hands-on info detailing how Android Pie runs on the Razer Phone 2. The update includes the gestures that we've seen on Google's Pixel phones, letting you swipe up to go to recent apps and press the pill-shaped button to go home. If gestures aren't your thing, you can disable them in the settings.

Other notable details of the Razer Phone 2's Android Pie update is that there are fewer animations and that Razer's settings menu has gotten a refresh, adding Material Design icons and tweaking the hierarchy. Razer says that there are Android Runtime improvements that should get you some memory improvements and better optimization, too, and the update bumps the Razer Phone to up to the February 2019 Android security patch level as well.

The Razer Phone 2 is a major flagship release, so it's good to hear that its Android Pie update is close. This update is a biggie, bringing new features, updated security patches, and the latest version of Android, so if you've got a Razer Phone 2, be on the lookout for Pie!
