Back at CES, Google teased a new Assistant interpreter mode feature that would translate live conversations between people speaking different languages. Now it looks like that feature is rolling out.
Google has launched an official support page for the Assistant's interpreter mode feature, detailing how you can use it and all of the languages that it can speak. It's available on all Google Home speakers, all smart displays, and some speakers with Google Assistant built-in.
To begin using interpreter mode, say "Ok Google" and then follow it with something like "Be my Italian interpreter" or "Help me speak Spanish". When you hear a tone, start speaking in either language.
Interpreter mode currently works with 26 languages, including English, Greek, Russian, Thai, and German. Here's the full list of supported languages:
While it's likely not going to be quite as good as a real live interpreter, this new interpreter mode is a nifty feature for Google Home speakers to gain. It's even more useful on smart displays, where you'll see the translated conversation in addition to hearing it. So if you've got a Google Home, smart display, or a speaker with Google Assistant built-in, go ahead and give interpreter mode a try!
