MWC 2019 will bring with it a ton of new phones, and it sounds like Energizer will be responsible for a sizable chunk of them.
Energizer — yes, the battery brand — says that it will reveal 26 new phones at MWC later this month. These will include phones with pop-up cameras, rugged devices, a phone with a foldable screen, and a phone with an 18,000mAh battery. The devices will be broken up into four ranges: Hardcase, Power Max, Energy, and Ultimate.
We'll have to wait until MWC at the end of February before we meet all of Energizer's new phones, but some of them have been previewed this week. As noted by GSMArena, the Energizer Ultimate U620S Pop (above left) and U630S Pop (above right) both come with pop-up selfie cameras that include a 16MP main sensor and 2MP secondary lens. The U620S Pop includes a 6.2-inch 1080p+ screen, Helio P70 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a microSD slot. There's a triple rear camera setup, too, which includes 16MP, 5MP, and 2MP cameras. A side-mounted fingerprint reader and 3200mAh battery are included as well.
Then there's the U630S Pop, which has a 6.3-inch 720p+ display, Helio P22 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and 3500mAh battery. The dual rear camera setup includes 16MP and 2MP sensors, and there's also a rear fingerprint reader.
The Ultimate U650S is the biggest phone in this family, boasting a 6.5-inch 720p+ display with a 16MP camera housed in its waterdrop notch. A 16MP and 2MP dual camera setup is located around back, and inside the phone is a Helio P22 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a microSD slot, and a 3500mAh battery.
Also teased is the Ultimate U620S. It's got a 6.2-inch 720p+ screen with a waterdrop notch and 16MP front camera, dual 16MP and 2MP rear cameras, and a 4000mAh battery. Also packed in this device is a MediaTek MT6765 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Finally, the Ultimate U570S has a 5.7-inch 720p+ display, a small notch with a 16MP display, and its own 16MP + 2MP dual rear camera setup. It's got a quad-core processor, 32GB of storage, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3000mAh battery.
The Ultimate U570S will be the first of this group to arrive, with a launch slated for April. The Ultimate U620S and U630S Pop are expected to arrive in June, while the U620S Pop will launch in July. The U650S is the farthest away, with a launch scheduled for October.
One other detail to note is that Energizer isn't making these devices itself. They're made by a company named Avenir Telecom, which distributes Energizer products to 55 countries around the world and is Energizer's licensee when it comes to mobile devices.
Energizer isn't a name you typically think of when it comes to mobile phones, but some of these upcoming devices sound pretty appealing. Foldable phones are a popular new trend in mobile right now, and so it'll be interesting to see how this Energizer foldable works and looks, especially compared to foldables from big names like Samsung and Huawei. And then there's that device with an 18,000mAh display, which sounds crazy. But of course you'd expect a phone from a battery company like Energizer to have a focus on battery life.
