Instagram is giving its profile page a makeover.
The social network has announced that it's starting to test a new profile page that will rearrange the top section, making changes to icons, buttons, and the way that you navigate tabs. Some of the changes include smaller Followers and Following countes that have also been moved to an area below your bio and URL.
Other changes include the words "Grid", "Posts", "IGTV", and "Tagged" written out instead of represented as icons as well as a new button with the word "Follow" written out rather than represented as an icon. Shops will also have buttons for "Call", "Email", "Directions", and "Start Order".
Instagram says that it plans to test these profile page changes in phases and different combinations over the coming weeks. It plans to continue to experiment and update as it gets feedback from users.
With these changes, Intagram appears to be placing more of a focus on the person or business behind the profile itself and de-emphasizing followers and following counts. It's also making buttons easier to understand by writing out what they do rather than using icons for them that could be difficult to understand if you don't already know their function.
