Nearly one year after its initial launch, Google's Files Go app is getting a bit of a rebrand.
Files Go will now be known as Files by Google, the company announced today. This name change is due to the fact that people around the world are using the app, no matter what type of phone they have or how fast their internet connection is, Google explains. "We often find that products designed for the Next Billion Users work just as well for everyone—including people with a fast 4G connection and a top of the line smartphone who want to organize their files and save on storage as well!"
Files Go was originally launched as an app targeted at Android (Go edition) devices, which is a version of Android targeting entry-level smartphones. These apps are meant to be lightweight and use less storage than the regular versions so that they run more smoothly on phones with lesser specs. However, everyone can use a good file management app, which is what Google has found with the adoption of its Files Go/Files by Google app. The company says that its file management app is now used by more than 30 million people each month.
Along with this new name, Google says that it's redesigned the user experience of the Files by Google app "to make sure that the content of your mobile phone is the ofcus when you use the app".
