OnePlus likes to make waves in the mobile industry with its "flagship killer" marketing and aggressive pricing, and next year the company will have another way to draw attention to its new hardware.
OnePlus says that it plans to release a 5G smartphone in 2019. Carl Pei, OnePlus co-founder, confirmed the news at a Qualcomm event today, explaining that OnePlus will be one of the first companies to market with a 5G-capable smartphone.
Details on this upcoming 5G smartphone are pretty light, but Pei said that OnePlus worked with Qualcomm on a 5G test earlier this year.
Mobile carriers will just be starting their 5G network rollouts in 2019, so 5G coverage with this upcoming smartphone may be tough to come by at the outset. Still, it's exciting to hear that we're getting close to 5G smartphones making their way to market. If you're a bleeding edge, early adopter type, this upcoming 5G phone from OnePlus ought to be right up your alley.
