Yesterday Apple announced that it's holding an event on October 30th, setting us up for a huge day of new products because that's the same day that OnePlus was scheduled to announce the OnePlus 6T. Now OnePlus says that it's moving its event up.
The OnePlus 6T event will now be held on October 29th. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau explains that the decision was made because of Apple's event on October 30th, and because OnePlus wants to ensure that "we can all experience the latest technology, together." The company considered how Apple's announcements might overshadow its own and the fact that consumers bought tickets to its event before coming to this decision, which Lau says is "one of the most painful decisions we have ever made."
"As ambitious and passionate as we all are, we have to acknowledge the reality of this situation. There are no winners here," Lau explains. "Over the course of almost 5 years, we have been proud to witness the rise of one of the most passionate and powerful communities in all of tech. But, we have to remain realistic. We have only just begun our journey and cannot afford to let one of the most important products in our history be affected by another great product launch."
Because OnePlus is moving its event up a day, the travel plans of folks who bought tickets to attend the OnePlus 6T reveal might be affected. OnePlus is stepping up to take care of those folks, saying that it'll cover any costs that they might incur like a flight change or hotel room. And if you bought a ticket but can't attend the rescheduled event, OnePlus will give you a full refund.
So there you go. This isn't a huge change for most of us, as it just means that we'll get to meet the OnePlus 6T earlier than expected. It's probably a smart move for OnePlus, though, ensuring that the OP6T will get some time in the spotlight to itself before Apple's event.
