Apple Pay now accepted at CVS Pharmacy

Following the launch of Apple Pay support at 7-Eleven last month, another major retailer has begun support Apple's mobile payment service.

Apple Pay is now supported at CVS Pharmacy. Apple confirmed the news in a marketing email: "Get your essentials in a flash. Buying snacks, vitamins, personal care, and prescriptions from CVS Pharmacy just got faster and more secure."

This rollout is notable for a couple of reasons. First, it's another major retailer that's added support for Apple Pay. Second, CVS began disabling the NFC payment terminals in its stores in October 2014, blocking Apple Pay and other mobile payment services. CVS then launched its own mobile payment service called CVS Pay that used a barcode and was built into the CVS Pharmacy app.

Fast-forward to today and CVS has adopted Apple Pay, which is welcome because it allows users to pay using the same Apple Pay app that they use in other stores rather than having to rely on a single special CVS app to pay in CVS stores.
