OnePlus has been slowly trickling out details of the OnePlus 6T in recent weeks, and today a couple more details on the upcoming flagship have been revealed.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has revealed in an interview that the OnePlus 6T won't have wireless charging support. In order for OnePlus to release a phone with wireless charging, it would need to be as fast as OnePlus's Dash Charge fast charge technology. "We're working hard on this," Lau explained. "When we get to the day that the wireless charging can get up to speed without the implication of heat that we expect, then I believe we can integrate the technology."
Wireless charging is becoming a standard feature for flagship smartphones, so it's kind of disappointing to hear that it won't be in the OnePlus 6T. It's understandable that OnePlus wants its wireless charging to be just as quick as its fast charging, but there are a lot of people who appreciate being able to just drop their phone on a wireless charger for a bit to regain some power, even if it's slower.
Another feature the OnePlus 6T won't have? An IP rating for water resistance. That doesn't mean that it won't be able to stand up to some H2O, though. In fact, Lau has said that the OnePlus 6T is more water resistant that previous OnePlus devices and that it can survive a drop in the sink or splash in the rain. The cost to go through the IP certification isn't worth it, Lau said, because "the number of users that are taking their phone to go swimming are few and far between."
