Typically, Apple has a pretty quick turnaround for announcing new products and getting them out into the world. Last year was a bit different, with the iPhone X seeing a bit of a longer separation between Apple's early September unveiling and the eventual launch. And we're seeing a similar situation this year with the iPhone XR, which was announced earlier this week but won't see the light of day until the end of October.

If you like iPhones, this year has a lot to offer. A lot to like. And while the iPhone XR is obviously not the flagship handset this year, it will probably garner plenty of attention and dollars.

Don't get me wrong, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are going to be super popular, too.

And we're going to get a first glimpse of that in just a few hours. Apple is launching preorders at 12:01 AM Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern on Friday, September 14. That means, at the time of this writing, we're just under four hours away from the floodgates being opened.

And now that both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are official, and we know everything there is about them, it's time to prepare for those preorders. And, as such, I'm curious: Did either one of these handsets grab your attention to warrant your hard earned cash (and upgrade/new line)?

Apple made the $1,000 phone a thing last year with the iPhone X, and in 2018 Apple indicated that's a strategy it isn't backing down on. In fact, it's making it apparent that for its flagship handsets, the price point is pretty much set at $999 and above. So when Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 9 starting at the same price, it wasn't too surprising. And it won't be too shocking to see other companies following suit.

Expensive phones are getting more expensive. Great!

And while Apple may have made expensive phones more expensive, which might not be that crazy anymore a year later, it's still a consideration. A big one, too. Especially if you are someone who wants a lot of built-in storage. The 512GB iPhone XS Max costs $1,449. That's more than a standard 13-inch MacBook Pro! It's more than a 512GB 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

It's a lot of money.

Monthly installments from Apple or wireless carriers, or whatever other way there might be, might make that price a bit easier to handle. Then again it might not. Just like the phone itself and whether or not you like it, it comes down to personal circumstances.
