Several years ago, Apple released the more affordable iPhone 5c in several fun color options. Now a new report claims that Apple may be trying that strategy again.
Apple is planning to launch its lower-cost 6.1-inch LCD iPhone in gray, white, blue, red, and orange color options. That's according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac who created the mockups you see above), who has a history of leaking upcoming iPhone details. Kuo also claims that this year's new 6.5-inch OLED iPhone X Plus device will come in gold — a color we learned Apple tested with the current iPhone X — in addition to black and white color options.
The 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that Kuo claims will be made available in several colors is expected to have a design similar to the iPhone X, but with a few changes to help bring the price down. These changes include an LCD screen rather than an OLED one, no stainless steel frame, and a single rear camera.
Because Apple doesn't typically offer a ton of color options with its iPhone hardware, having some fun colors for the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone would be a big deal. The device itself will likely be attractive to a lot of people because it'll offer an iPhone X design with a more affordable price tag, but having more color options could help get even more people to upgrade to the new device.
