Amazon's Echo Show is a smart speaker with a big 7-inch screen that can come in handy for viewing timers, watching videos, and more. With a new accessory, though, you can get the Echo experience with an even bigger display.
The Amazon Show Mode Charging Dock will turn your Fire HD 8 or Fire HD 10 tablet into an Echo Show-style device. When you drop the tablet into the dock, it enables Show Mode and becomes a "more immersive Alexa experience." You can ask to see the news and weather, watch a TV show, start a video call, or view your flash briefing. You can also make announcements through other Echo devices throughout your home.
The Show Mode dock comes with a case that has a microUSB port that you plug your Fire HD 8 or Fire HD 10 tablet into. You then drop your tablet with that case into the dock and Show Mode will be enabled while your device charges. If you decide you want to take your tablet somewhere else, you can just pick it up in its case and go.
Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the Show Mode Charging Dock and will launch both the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 versions on July 12th.
This Show Mode Charging Dock looks like a pretty nice accessory for Amazon's Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets. Not only does it give you a larger screen than any current Echo device, but it can also give you an Echo-style experience without you having to actually buy a smart speaker. This way, you can use the Show Mode dock to see if having a smart screen in your kitchen, bedroom, or wherever is something that interests you. If it doesn't, you've still got a nice tablet that you can use.
Also revealed today is the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition tablet. Like Amazon's other Kids Edition tablets, this model comes with a kid-proof case and a two-year Worry Free Guarantee. This means that if your device breaks, you can return it and Amazon will replace it. Also included is FreeTime Unlimited, which offers more than 15,000 books, videos, educational apps, and games for kids.
Aside from the case and FreeTime Unlimited, this Fire HD 10 Kids Edition is largely similar to the non-Kids Edition model. It's got a 10.1-inch 1080p screen, 1.8GHz quad-core processor, VGA front and 2MP rear cameras, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD slot. These features do make it Amazon's most powerful Kids Edition tablet, so it should stand up to most of the kids games that you throw at it.
The Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Edition is now available for pre-order and will launch on July 11th.
