It looks like Vivo is working hard to be an industry leader with its next generation devices. The smartphone manufacturer is focusing its technology on groundbreaking displays that will attract the general public. And it aims to achieve this by releasing a device with a full-screen display and in-display fingerprint sensor technology.
Earlier today, Vivo has launched a stunning all-screen device called the Vivo NEX. The device was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC) in Barcelona as a concept phone. Now, it looks like it’s ready to spearhead the smartphone industry, at least in China.
One of the stunning features of the Vivo NEX is the fact that it has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 91.24 percent. The screen has a 6.59-inch size with Super AMOLED display technology. It comes with almost non-existent bezels on its sides and a really small bezel on the bottom. As a matter of fact, Vivo has included a pop-up 8-megapixel selfie camera on top of the display. In doing so, Vivo has eliminated the need for a notch, which is what so many smartphone models currently have.
Another key display feature that Vivo is making available on the NEX is an in-display fingerprint sensor found under the display. It’s the same technology that will be available on the Vivo X21, which was earlier announced. Vivo is also including Screen SoundCasting Technology on the NEX device, which turns the screen of the phone into a speaker. Again, this eliminates the need to include a traditional speaker on the phone.
Underneath all the screen, the NEX is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of onboard storage, and Adreno 630 GPU. The back has a dual camera configuration with a 12-megapixel main and 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The phone is equipped with a 4000mAh battery and a headphone jack. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
As for availability, Vivo says the NEX will be available in China with a price of $780. There is no update on whether or not the NEX will be coming to the U.S. or other markets.
